[LBo] Recording Audio from analog

I have recorded from cassette tapes in Windows before using Recorder and 
a gold tipped cable going from the cassette player to, I think, "line 
in" on the computer.

Can anyone give me a recommendation on what program to use in Linux to 
record this way.  I'm pretty sure that is not a good idea to go from 
headphone on the cassette to the microphone input, but rather to use the 
"line-in" or something like that--not sure what it is called.  Any tips 
for me.  I want to make some mp3s from cassettes at home in Linux.
