That was the first thing I tried, then Google.  The first time I tried 
to open a terminal, it looked just like the image in the "Linux Basics" 
book with four menu choices on the top.  That is the one that asked for 
the password.  When I tried it at a later time I used a short cut on the 
bottom of the desktop that opened a terminal that has, if I recall, six 
menu choices.  This one doesn't ask for a password.  Now I really am 
confused.  I can't find the original terminal again.  I guess that's 
what I get for trying to cram study time into break time at work. 
Thanks to all who offered assistance.  If I solve the mystery I will 
post the solution.  (Note:  I said "IF" <vbg>.)
