Except that you...how should I phrase it...you don't die.

If something overwrites the MBR and you cannot boot into Linux anymore, 
you can boot from a live-CD, mount the root-partition of your 
linux-installation (and /proc, IIRC), chroot to it, and reinstall your 
bootloader of choice.

If that does not make sense to you, wait until you need the information 
and then ask on the list :)
