Hi,

It has a problem I haven't been able to figure out. After being on continuously for about 2 days, both case fans speed up to at least twice the speed and noise for seemingly no reason. There is no overheating, and the air being blown out is cool. The machine becomes unpredictable after that and has to be shut down by holding in the power button or switching off the PSU.
It's an Emachine (I DON'T suggest purchasing one) that I took off someone's hands for them, so who knows what the problem is (it actually still had warranty on it when I got it... from calling them I've found that they have intentionally crippled most of the machine to get you to pay for added support). I use the machine for a web server for my intranet, and it works VERY well as long as it's not on too long. So I would rather reboot it on my own terms until I can afford a better box. The computer easily reboots when I run shutdown manually.
I've tried adding the full path now, and it's still not working. I've tried it in VMware and couldn't get a different install of Centos or FC5 (basically the same OS) to reboot either, but Slackware 10 went down no problem (the full path was /sbin/shutdown for all three flavors).
I guess I'm gonna get a new mobo and move to Slackware for my server.
Thank you for the suggestions. Good idea about the stderr, Billy.
