Ah, the problem was that there are two calendars - one Personal (on my 
computer) and one on the Server.  The personal appointments are 
highlighted blue and the ones on the server are pinkish.  There is a 
setting when you make a new appoinment to choose the calendar and I had 
not changed it from Personal to Calendar (server).  I did that just now. 
It took a while for the setting to change and then for the change to be 
made on the server - perhaps 30 seconds each.  I know changes on our 
server are slow even at work where the server is located.  So, that 
works and I expect to have an alarm go off today at work.

Now to read up on how to do keyboard shortcuts.  I found something, but 
not sure where I put it.  LOL.
