[LBo] How do I get my thumb drive to work in Kanotix?

Anita & Stefan,
Let me begin by saying thank you for responding to my
question. I'm always blown away by the generosity of some on-line
communities but you folks are especially good. Let me follow that by
saying I'm a GUI kind of guy (another MS Win cripple) wanting very badly
to become more of a Linux command line kind of a person. I love Kanotix
but only use it because of the generosity (Do I sound like Blanche from
"Streetcar"?) of a good friend. It is time, however, for me to learn
how to take care of my own machine.
That said, I tried Stefan's advice but got nothing. Anita, I
tried your advice and opened a Shell Konsole and put in exactly:
udevinfo -p /sys/block/sda/sda1 -a |less
and received this response:
udevinfo starts with the device the node belongs to and then walks up the
device chain, to print for every device found, all possibly useful
attributes
in the udev key format.
Only attributes within one device section may be used together in one rule,
to match the device for which the node will be created.
device '/sys/block/sda/sda1' has major:minor 8:1
looking at class device '/sys/block/sda/sda1':
KERNEL=="sda1"
SUBSYSTEM=="block"
SYSFS{dev}=="8:1"
SYSFS{size}=="246240"
SYSFS{start}=="32"
SYSFS{stat}==" 33 264 0 0"
follow the "device"-link to the physical device:
looking at the device chain at
'/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:10.4/usb4/4-4/
4-4:1.0/host5/target5:0:0/5:0:0:0':
BUS=="scsi"
ID=="5:0:0:0"
DRIVER=="sd"
SYSFS{device_blocked}=="0"
:
I did NOT receive any information about the product or an SYSFS serial
#. Below is what the tutorial page said I SHOULD see (or something
similar):
SYSFS{product}="USB DISK 20X "
SYSFS{serial}="075203150062"
Please let me apologize in advance for any infuriatingly newbie mistakes
I may be making. Have I made a mistake in the syntax (I also tried the
first command with "$" in front of it) or is there something else you
could suggest? Good people of Linux Land, help please.
Thank you in advance,
Edward P.S. I DO intend to study and become more of an
assett to the community. I'm very excited about Linux.
