I guess it means that this version is modified so that it will allow
Debian Sarge packages to work with it. That sounds great.
If I were going to try to install kde 3.5, I would use synaptic with the
new source and take a look at the packages to be installed prior to
installing. If it was going to change anything besides kde packages, I
probably would not try it, or I would make a clone of my system on a
separate partition and try it there.
This doesn't sound as scary as going to something like kde 4.0. Let us
know the outcome if you try it.
