Well, normally you setup something that is a server with a static IP mostly
because you don't' want it to move about. If you don't want to or can't make a
static IP you could use a DHCP reservation which makes it get it's address from
DHCP but it sets aside a single address that it always gives that particular
client. If you want to you could also access the system by name and just use a
DDNS to keep the record updated, that way it doesn't matter what IP address it
has.
Personally, I prefer the static IP addresses on all server type systems because
it has less points of failure. I'm certain that any current version of BIND
will do DDNS and I'm fairly certain DJBDNS will too. The trouble with all
these suggestions though is that I can't really give any specific advice on how
to set it all up. I never setup a Linux based DHCP server, and I only ever did
DDNS in BIND once a long time ago.
I'm sure others will fill in the blanks for us, or even suggest something
better. ;)
