Brian is right about the DHCP with a client option reservation to give the computer that is acting as a print server what effectively is a static ip(you would enter the WINS name , and MAC address for it here). However the only other alternative to this is to manually edit the lmhosts files on all computers . If you are running the linux box as a print server it must have a static ip - whatever method this is acheived by. If its just  a small network using lmhosts files would be preferably for the fault tolerance it provides.
