I don't think you are missing anything. I don't remember if I specifically
mentioned it, but it is possible to have a dynamic IP and use samba with a wins
server to provide name resolution. Also, if the DHCP server is a Windows 2000
or newer server it can update DNS and WINS on behalf of the DHCP client in the
event that the client doesn't do it for itself.
There are many possibilities here. I just personally prefer a static IP because
there are generally less points of failure.
