[LBo] Progress on Samba

Ok, installation of Ubuntu is complete after fighting with a faulty
cdrom. Sound isn't happening and didn't happen with Knoppix; so that is
a later concern.
Samba is working right out of the box. I made a user named ajlewis with
the login that I use on that computer and gave the computer the same
name as I use on the network in Windows. It shows up on the network.
I made another user with the same login name as my other computer with
XP. It is AnitaLewis, but I made it anitalewis on the Linux computer.
I added the smbpasswd, that being the same as the one I usually use to
login to that computer and not the same as the login I use to get on the
network with my XP box.
I made a share of the home user directories for both ajlewis and
anitalewis on Samba and I see them both on both the Linux box network
and on the XP box in My Network Places. I can view things on both. I
can put something on the anitalewis share and not on the ajlewis share.
That is not all that surprising to me, because I have logged in there
as anitalewis and only that directory is open to me.
How do I make ajlewis share open to me and only me?
Oh, yes, and the printer works fine from the XP box. I have to try it
from the other Win98 box. That box only needs to print and anyone on
the network can print as far as I'm concerned, but I don't care if no
one else can. Right now opening that ajlewis share is what I need to
do. Do I need to make a group? Then that means assigning permissions
to files that allow the group to access. Not my choice if there is a
way in the Samba configuration.
Thanks,
Anita
