I was assuming that I would still have a working version of grub on mbr -
hd(0,0) - and could simply edit one boot entry [ ie hdc to hdb ] in the grub
command line.
[ Failing that, use my trusty Knoppix to mount hdb + then edit the necessary
files to get one distro up and running ].
Like I said, I will wait til I "rationalize" my distros - but thanks for all
the suggestions - I have filed for future reference.
Meanwhile, I have a less complicated question.
I am running Debian Sarge ( which I think you do ) with Gnome + Kde gui's.
I have been using gdm, which seems to give issues in Kde e.g. does not seem to
"remember" previous Kde settings on booting.
So I downloaded kdm and made this default.
This gives me its login screen, but will not let me log in as user or root -
[ just presents new login screen ]. I can use the menu to do a "console
login" + then startx gets a gnome desktop, but I can't get kde to run.
Do I need to do more than make kdm default in order to change desk-top
managers?
Geoff.
