I have made a break through and have my wireless working
the keys to my solution were:
1) the help from this list

 or in semidetailed form: 
disable bcm43xx built in driver
use ndiswrapper (I already had the win xp driver)
install knetworkmanager
disable all references in /etc/network/interfaces
use knetworkmanager.
one trick, you need to know full details of your wep key (open/shared 
hex/ascii etc)
