Well, this seems to be a "feature" of Suse 10.1 and 10.0.
I rebooted into Mepis 6 and tried all the above commands and they worked
like your examples. I then tried on Suse 10.0 and I got the same results
as Suse 10.1. Maybe we will learn why this is in a future lesson.
