Being picky:
You used it. I don't think you needed to MODIFY it, did you?

There is more than one way to do it:
stw at laptop:~$ echo "pinguin" | aspell -l en_us --sug-mode=slow -a
will produce a list of suggested corrections, including the correct 
"penguin".
