I just finished doing a dual-boot system with Ubuntu 6.1 and Win XP.
The best way I found to do the partitioning was by booting first with a
Knoppix live cd and using QTParted to make my partitions. This was on a
system that already had XP installed. I then installed Ubuntu to the
new linux partition and it works flawlessly. I did have to go in and
edit the menu.lst in /boot to change the order of the default OS to boot
to, but other than that it's been perfectly painless.
