[LBo] Secure FTP Access woes

I am attempting to setup secure FTP access using ClarkConnect 3.2 as my 
server

At login I get a "530 Login Incorrect." I know both the userid and 
password are correct and the port is open.
I have tried accessing it remotely using the domain name and also 
locally using the IP address of the server. Same result on either.

My syslog shows "10-03-2006    12:35:16    System0.Notice    
208.0.0.1    proftpd[28765]: main.likespecies.pointclark.net 
(tty1.likespecies.pointclark.net[208.0.0.245]) - USER tim: user is not a 
UserAlias from tty1.likespecies.pointclark.net [208.0.0.245] to 
208.0.0.1:21"

I do not understand what this is telling
"USER tim: user is not a UserAlias from tty1.likespecies.pointclark.net 
[208.0.0.245] to 208.0.0.1:21"
the userid is the same on both machines.

What things could I look for to resolve this issue?
