I am Neville. (I ASSUME that I will be the only Neville on this list)
My first computer was a 'Cosmac Elf' (RCA 1802 based 0K ROM, 256 bytes
of RAM and toggle switches for inputs) built from a popular electronics
magazine article. Graduated to a C64, VIC20, Timex Sinclair and finally
an IBM PC.
I am a hardware/software hacker (in the good sense of the word) and a
programmer by trade.
I learned to program (BASIC) by spending 2 days (at a Radio Shack trade
show) in front of their Color Computer demo.
Learned 'C' by typing in (and then debugging) the 'small C compiler'
from Dr. Dobbs magazine article.
I have played with Linux (on and off, mostly off) since '98.
I know some things, but there is so much to learn.
I have decided to go Open source because I want to feel like I own my
machine again.
I have been 'Windows free' at home for 3 weeks now. I need to step up to
the next level (in Linux) to be completely windows free.
I am looking forward to this course.
Neville
