Hey everyone,
My name is Dallas, from Alabama, USA. I've been dabbling with Linux on
and off over the past year. At 23 years old, I started my first
full-time job out of college in May of this year. The company I work
for provides a hardware/software solution run entirely with *nix. As a
member of Customer Service and Support, I spend the majority of my day
staring at the command line, remotely accessing servers for
troubleshooting purposes. I've absorbed a lot of Linux info concerning
shell commands, directory structure, and file manipulation, but I
still sit firmly in the beginner's stage.
I've been sold on the effectiveness of Linux in the workplace (my job
would be much worse as a Windows solution), but I still harbor some
skepticism for Linux on the desktop. All that aside, I'm simply
curious about GNU/Linux and wish to expand my knowledge. I don't run
servers or administer anything, so I suppose my viewpoints come from
the desktop user angle.
Ubuntu is currently installed on my laptop, and I'll be working with
it for the foreseeable future. Other distros I've played with are
SuSe, Debian, and Arch Linux.
