If you install your packages using Yast, it should tell you what you 
need. Especially if the application is part of the distribution (as I 
thought kchmviewer was)

Or do you install with plain "rpm -i ..."?

There is something like "apt4rpm". I have not used it myself, but apt is 
a very good tool to install packages with its heritage in Debian.
It is one reason why I kept trying debian-derivatives and finally landed 
at Ubuntu.

Nothing beats a quick "apt-get install whateverUwant"...
