Hello everybody,

This is something you will probably all notice:

It is much easier to describe something to be done on the commandline
than to describe it in a graphical environment.

It simply is much more concise to write: "Type 'ls -la'" instead of "If
using KDE, then click here and there. But if using Gnome, you need to do
this and that..."

The commandline also make it easier to work as regular (unprivileged)
user, but quickly configure something as root (administrator). This
distinction is an important security rule.

For those of you who want to read something about the commandline
(before we get there with the course), here are some links. (They are
not neccessarily for the complete newbies. If you are new to linux,
don't get intimidated by these pages. They will make sense soon :)

Basic steps with common linux-editors:

Many tasks on this page are described using commandline-tools
http://linuxbasics.org/tutorials/using/start

And then, of course the cli-based tutorials that were "voted" into the
advanced section :)

Did i say "I love the commandline", yet?

Stefan
