It may not help (as I don't know how it happened), but the last I ran 
suse 9.2 pro, I was able to connect to the internet through my networked
win xp box.  Win xp had file and internet sharing.  When I installed suse,
which was connected to the networked, it configured everything on its own.
All I had to make sure of was that my windows box was turned on when I 
turned my linux box on.  This saved alot swapping cables.
