Just one other quick question, as you are running a Debian clone.

Did you do any updating/upgrading after setting up your system and the
time you lost your screen savers, etc.

Reason I ask is that Debian upgrades have come around to bite me in the
butt more than once.  Get X up and running just like I like, upgrade and
have to go back in and get things tweaked again.

That goes back as far as Potato and up through Sarge.  So far, haven't
been using X enough in Etch to have run into any issues.
