[LBo] Missing directory

Do a cat of /etc/fstab, first without the drive attached, and then with 
it plugged in.  You will likely find that the system is "seeing" the 
drive as some other device (sda1 e.g.).

I have a similar difficulty occasionally with my digital camera on a usb 
connection.  Usually, it's /dev/sda1, but once in a while it gets 
recognized as /dev/sda3.
