Hello everybody,
it is time to actually move the "linuxbasics.org" domainname to the new
server. Since a change of ownership (from Stefan Waidele to Stefan
Waidele - don't ask :) is involved, I can not specify a timeframe for
the process.
This paragraph SHOULD NOT be neccessary:
If anything goes wrong and you cannot get through to the site anymore
(and maybe the list stops to work, and maybe the world comes to an end),
you can send me mail to Stefan at Waidele.info
These are the steps that I will take during the next hours:
1. Set the wiki on the old server (IP-adress 82.165.35.203) to read only.
2. Copy the wiki to the new server (IP-adress 88.198.215.82)
3. Make the wiki on the new server read-write again.
At this point, if people browse to "http://LinuxBasics.org", they will
get the old server with the know content.
If you want to modify wikipages (or read the modified pages), you will
need to go to "http://88.198.215.82".
4. Maybe, I will set up a rewrite-rule in the old apache-server to
forward all request it receives to the new server. Mail that goes to the
old server is forwarded to the new server already.
Then, some time during this or next week, the ownership transfer (slow,
up to 5 workdays) and the change in the DNS-servers (quite fast, IIRC
max. up to two days) will be complete. Then LinuxBasics.org should
function as always again. The actual change should not be noticed,
except through delighted e-mails which I will send to this list when
everything is over.
Again, you can reach me anytime at Stefan at Waidele.info
Stefan
