This is a very good point. While Debain and it's derivatives use the
same packaging technology, that doesn't imply that mixing packages
intended for other distros will work or even that they won't break
things. Dependency issues would be hard to fix if they occurred as well
thereby negating the value of a package management system in the first
place.
