It's easy enough to do. sudo ifconfig ppp0 mtu 576. Good luck. Oh,
also you must be connected. And when you disconnect and reconnect,
you'll have to issue that command again. There is definitely a way to
make the setting permanent, I simply can't remember how, but that
should get you started.
