In chapter 3, there are details of the contents of /var/tmp and that
this is the temp directory for the system, but on my Ubuntu 6.06
installation, there is also a /tmp directory that seems to be used as
the main temp storage area. Is this because I have specifically setup
my system with a /tmp partition? Is it feasable to make /tmp a symbolic
link to /var/tmp so that I can create one partition for /var and not
have to create two separate partitions for both /tmp and /var?
My idea is that I want partitions for the following listed in order on disc:
/boot
swap
/
/home
/var
so that I can easily wipe my installation (root partition) and
re-install Ubuntu without having to wipe /home or /var where I have my
user data and log files (I basically want to always keep the log files).
