Personnally I am a debian person, but debian has been annoying me of late so I
have had a look a Kubuntu (I am also a KDE person, can't get on with Gnome).
But as much as I wanted to like kubuntu I just could not get on with it.

Currently I am enjoying playing with Mepis 6.04 beta5 (well apart from the
wireless network). Mepis is based on ubuntu but it feels more like Debian.

If you want solid reliable then I would say debian, stable is a bit behind the
time but if your happy with that it will. If you have newer hardware that
debain won't play with or you want a newer version of something then try
Mepis and if that fails to entertain you then try the ubuntu family
