[LBo] file system question. (slightly OT)

Hello all,
first the question: how do I tell what filesystem a currently mounted
harddrive is formated in?
now the reason:
I have an old harddrive from somebody else that got really messed up. It came
from a windows machine so I would expect fat32 or ntfs. In trying to recover
data from it, (under win) I could get _nothing_, either from simply putting
it in another machine, or running data recovery software. I brought it home
and I'm playing with it. Just for kicks, (yeah, I should probably get a life)
I plugged it into my Linux laptop (IDE to USB converter). It reads easily,
and properly. I've pulled over 2GB of data from the drive with no apparent
file corruption. I do realize that computer hardware can do strange things,
and this wouldn't be the first time I've seen intermittent problems, but this
one is weird.
