Hello all,
I have a Dell Optiplex GX280, 3.0 GHz, 512 Ram, 80 GB hard drive on which I
want to setup a Linux box to server as an e-mail server (internal only -
Intranet), an Intranet Webserver and also to setup an open source
collaborative software. I want to do it step by step - starting with
setting up an e-mail server. This is supposed to serve 100 employees.
I am currently running a Linux box for Intranet e-mail. It is running redhat
linux 3.2.2-5 on a linux kernel 2.4.20-5, installed (not by me) in 2003 or
before. In order for the system to not freeze I have to restrict outlook
clients on the windows network to check for e-mails every 10 minutes and
this was after a memory upgrade to 1GB. This is a drag as you want staff to
be able to check for e-mail at least every 3 miutes or so.
I am open to suggestions: on the best size memory, hard drive and also the
best distro to use - I have been playing with Kubuntu but I am open to
suggestion.
I am still at chapter 4. but trying to catch up. I also have been trying to
keep up with the posts.
Thank you in advance.
Kojo
