Be aware that using a .ko file that has been created for one kernel will
not likely work on another one. The module should already be on your
system and if it is not, you will need to be sure to get it from the
same kernel you are using. Ordinarily that means compiling it from the
kernel source. You can't just copy it from one place to your system and
expect it to work. In addition, that module must be loaded via initrd
so that the hard drive can be accessed, I think.

He is saying that some distros work with the ide and they seem to be
more Debian-based. He ends up using SuSE with success, I guess
preferring the rpm type system. You might consider trying something
like Ubuntu Edgy which is what I'm using, though admittedly not with
your mb. It did come out in October, though, and likely supports your
hardware. I find sata_nv.ko in /lib/modules, for example.
