I thought this myself, and removed the IceWeasel/IceDove packages 
(leaving epiphany for other reasons). Downloaded Firefox and 
Thunderbird, unpacked into /opt directory as mentioned on the Mozilla 
website. With a bit of work on the links in /usr/bin and 
/usr/share/pixmaps and making sure the account I use generally has 
access to the directories in order to be able to auto-update. Extensions 
and such are installed in my home directory so they are easy to update 
as well.
