You my be limiting your options by focusing on only which Live CD distros are 
working for you. I know sounds like doubling your workload, but if you find a 
distro you really like but that the Live CD doesn't work, you might give the 
regular install CD a chance and see if it will work after installation.

I think you mentioned these computers will be on dialup.
Is that a seperat phone line on each computer or one line shared between them all?
