First and foremost, it is of utmost importance to only use repositories
that you can not only trust but won't break your system every time an
update and attempted upgrade happens. If you don't really have a need to
insert another repo, then don't. Debian unstable is notorious for
introducing dependency issues.

First, after you remove the repository you don't need, then update
Synaptic again before attempting the upgrade. The "upgrade" should put
downgrade you to stable.
I found at least for my needs, that ubuntu's faster release cycle got me
newer versions of software quickly with out the risk of using sid.
