I was wondering why you hadn't just installed postfix with

sudo apt-get install postfix

or using the Adept package manager?

You should be able to upgrade it with Adept if it is needed.

I don't know about the configuring.  I guess you could do a search at

http://google.com/linux
or http://ubuntu.com in their wiki documentation or in their forums
