Look at the directory from the file manager and identify a picture that
displays and one that does not.  Then open a terminal and do 'ls -lh' to
see them both.

What are the differences in the listing?  Extensions the same?
Permissions the same?

I recall having some icon display problems when I first upgraded to
Edgy.  Have you run upgrades since installing it?  I'm pretty sure they
fixed the problem pretty early on.  It was affecting more than just
pictures; so it doesn't sound like what is happening to you.
