[LBo] New xubuntu user still has no net connection

I made the changes as you requested, and got a ping, the outputs are below:

> Go back to System --> Network in the Menu.
> Select the Wired Network and be sure Roaming is unchecked.
> Select Static IP in the drop down menu instead of DHCP.

> Put in 192.168.1.2 which is going to be the IP address for your laptop.
>   The second line will fill in automatically. Leave the Gateway blank
> for now.

> Reboot and then try to ping 192.168.1.1 again to see if you can reach
