I see that there has been input--of various sorts. :-) Thanks to all
for the advice. This has been very helpful to me. I now have a feeling
that the Core Duo will be a good thing to do. I'm going to hold off
buying any laptop right now for two reasons:

1. I don't really, really need one.
2. The weight of 5.5 pounds is good, but yesterday I went to Circuit
City and held a 3 pound (approx) laptop and nearly died of infatuation!
I actually don't feel good about getting one that light, but I would
like to see a Linux laptop weighing about 4 pounds. So, I figure if I
wait I might see changes and get more what I truly want.

Then again... Why is this money burning a hole in my pocket??
