We have something on our site on how to set it up manually:

One you have the samba.shares in your fstab, there should be the icons 
on the desktop, too.

You can also browse the windows/samba-network via "places -> 
network-servers" from the gnome-menu. (I hope I translated correctly, 
since I am using the german version "Orte -> Netzwerk Server")
