Hi Allen,

I think you have installed CUPS. As you've mentioned before you can configure 
printer with yast but not able to get a print out.

So CUPS is installed and network printer is available. The Laserjet 5 has 
configuration panel. Did you configure printer via its control panel? I 
remember an access limit function on such HP printers. Did you limit printer 
access? And besides did you run kprinter or something? Kprinter also could 
limit users.
