Wow, been doing some comparison shopping between the System 76 laptops
and what Best Buy on line has to offer. What I ended up finding is that
for apples to apples and oranges to orange, the System 76 are right in
there.
The Darter series compares Very closely with the Apple Mac Book, and
dollar for dollar, the Mac is a bit less money and the System 76 is a
pound lighter.
Going up to the Serval series compared to a Lenova with comparable
specs, the Serval is a bit less money(with a slightly smaller HD) but
the Lenova is a pound lighter.
So, the only real down side that I would see is that the System 76 costs
the same with a free OS as do the Mac and the Lenova with there respect
Mac OS X and Windows Vista.
BUT, and this is a Very large item, tech support for the free OS is
free, unlike Mac and Windows support. AND, add to that the fact that if
you were to buy a brand new computer from one of the top name OEMs, you
will pay the same amount whether you get it with windows or just Free
DOS, if the specs are the same.
My conclusion is that Anita has made a Very good purchase on what we all
hope will be a high quality laptop.
Later,
Lonnie
