[LBo] File permissions

Hi all,

I'm having some trouble with setting file permissions in Ubuntu 6.10. Here
is the situation. I created a directory under my user account called
pictures, and moved all my pictures into the pictures directory. I then
created a symbolic link to the pictures directory under my wife's user
account, and changed the permissions on the "pictures" directory to owner
and group rwx. I also made both my wife and myself a member of the "users"
group. However, whenever I add new files or sub directories to the
"pictures" directory, the new files and directories cannot be accessed by
the non-owner of the files. The owner of the files varies depending on who
copies the files from the smart flash card to the computer. How can I make
it so all sub directories and files of the "pictures" directory give my wife
and I complete access to all directories and files under the "pictures"
directory?

The other interesting thing I'm experiencing is the actual picture thumbnail
will not display as the icon when in graphical mode. This only happens when
under my wife's account on a sub directory which I am the owner, and my wife
tried accessing when she did not have permission. I since changed the
permission on the sub directory so my wife can access the files, but the
icons are generic icons, not a thumbnail of the picture like in other sub
directories.

Thanks for your help!
