will give you some protection until you have worked out a long term 
solution.

A router might your best option. There is a Linux hardware box sold as a 
complete firewall. It is a commercial box. but I think you can just 
download the program and install it on your own box. For this you need 
just the bare basics. Most likely your local computer shop will sell el 
cheapo trade in that will suit your purpose.
