Problem solved. Sometimes I just need to read the instructions in more
detail.... According to the buttons website:
- *Close message window immediately after Delete!:*
Enable this option only if you are using IMAP and have set Thunderbird
to mark a message as deleted instead of moving the message to the Trash
folder.
I had the above option enabled, which resulted in the message closing, but
not being sent to the trash. Once I disabled the above option, the message
was sent to the trash when clicking the delete! key.
