I solved the scroll issue.  When I set my depth in xorg to 16 from 24, the
scroll issue fixed itself.

I'm now testing to see if it is the screen saver, or the power setting
features that caused the computer to freeze.  As of now, I disabled the
power settings, and the screen saver is working without freezing the
computer.

Does anyone know how I can get the Num Lock key to automatically turn on
during boot?
